Title: PSTNISDN Emulation Architecture
1PSTNISDN Emulation Architecture
- Baofeng (Felix), ZHANG Dongyang, FAN
2The definition of NGN (By ITU-T)
- Next Generation Network (NGN) is a IP-based
network architecture, which has the following
features - Separation between service and transport
- Personal and Terminal Mobility
- Resource and admission control
- QoS selection control
- Accommodation of legacy terminals and systems

Interworking with PSTN/ISDN
7Proposition on CS-based PES
- Advantage
- Mature technology and products, easy to fully
inherit PSTN services - Disadvantage
- PSTN emulation and IMS will be two segregate
domains, PSTN emulation is hardly to migrate to
IMS. - Disables the deployment of common control
planes/platforms - Difficult to enable service convergence
8IMS-based PES Functional Architecture
9Value Added Services architecture for IMS-based
PES
10Proposition on IMS-based PES
- Advantage
- Base on IMS architecture, PSTN Emulation can be
realized under unified IMS architecture, which
ensure the simplicity of network architecture - Disadvantage
- PSTN service logic is in AS, the interface
between AGCF and PSTN AS must be redefined. - Full replication of PSTN services in IMS
architecture can be inherited hardly. Such as
hotline service, the event of user off hooking
must be reported to PSTN AS, which will incur
many complexity to the AGCF and PSTN AS. - If PSTN as inherit all the legacy service, lots
of work about standards and products must be
submitted, which is not so smart.

Keeping the consistence on Arc, with some
enhanced functions to support PES specific
requirements.
