of modes by developing content, employing
specific forms, and selecting language
appropriate for a particular audience and

journals, narratives, letters, reports, and
paragraphs

- Students will use journals in all content areas.
Composition notebooks will be used for the Daily
Journal and Academic Journal. Theme journals
will be given to students for a specific theme or
topic. - The purpose of the Daily Journal is to reflect.
Prompts will be given to help students if
necessary. The Academic Journal will contain
responses to assignments in a particular content
area. The Daily Academic journals will be kept
throughout the year. - Theme journals will contain only one theme or
topic. It may be in the shape of the theme and
will be used for only a short period of time. - The last slide in this presentation can be
reproduced for the students daily use or to
create a journal.
4Your Journal
Journals are a wonderful vehicle for personal
expression! There may be times you feel writing
is tough. Dont get discouraged just take one
step at a time. Prompts may give you a little
help to send you in all kinds of directions.
Your entry may be a story, poem, essay, or
recording your reactions and questions. Your
journal will be one of a kind!

You may also add an illustration.

A written reflection is your personal opinion.
It states the ideas you have about the prompt
and relates the conclusions you draw in a brief
summary.
