Laptop support in PPD (1) DHCP Visitors

• DHCP is available from any network port (for now)
• Local laptops get static DHCP address with more
  access
• Looking at requiring registration to connect to
  network

Laptop Support in PPD (2) Ours

• Loan pool of five NT laptops
• All Identical
• HD is wiped and software is re-cloned from CD
  (almost automatically) before each loan
• Users accounts not administrative
• Users give access to Admin account for support at
  remote sites
• Problems
• GETTING THEM BACK!

Laptop Support in PPD (3) Groups

• Strongly encouraged to buy a laptop that we have
  some experience with
• We will install the same software set-up as on
  our loan pool laptops
• If user has problems we offer to re-clone the
  laptop
• Other support is best effort if we have time
