2Introduction
- We seek to brief the Standing Committee on our
efforts to acquire funding for our Black Economic
Empowerment mining projects. - SAWIMA is a group of previously disadvantaged
women who are interested in investing in mineral
and energy projects.

- 3.The challenges we face.
- 4. How the Standing Committee might be able to
assist us.
4Our Vision
- To contribute to the facilitation of the
empowerment of previously disadvantaged women
especially in the Mining and Petroleum Sectors
consistent with the Constitution of South Africa.
5Our Activities
- SAWIMA has been in existence for the past 40
months. Our principal activities include - 1. Exploring opportunities in our sectors by
liaising with - a. Mining companies
- b. Role players in the industry
- c. Government.

- 1. A Company Profile
- 2. A Business Plan
- 3. A Financial Plan
- 4. Seeking Financial Support.
7Need for Decentralization
- We have been in regular contact with the Regional
Director in PE. We have received lots of
encouragement and many ideas. - We are of the view that greater decentralization
will make it possible for her to attend to our
needs more urgently.
8Need for empowerment
- The Regional Director needs to be empowered to
make firm financial and administrative decisions. - This will make it possible for the Department to
be able to translate policy decisions into action
plans. - As it is SAWIMA has many plans but no actions.
9For SAWIMA to get off the ground we
needA Strategic Business Advisorto provide
administrative support and identify business
opportunities. Prepare Business Plans, Provide
Financial Guidance etc.
10NeedsA Geologist to survey the potential
mining areas and give us guidance on where to
explore
11NEEDS
- Access to Finance. To be able to put all our
plans into place. - To kick-start our project we need comprehensive
workshops on mining opportunities in order to
familiarize ourselves with the activities of our
sector.
