WAP placement considerations

• All WAPs connected to the physical network access
• This allows for no bottlenecks
• All important halls and rooms covered

Channels

• Out of 13 channels available we used 1,6 and 11
• Due to using these channels it cuts down the
  chance of interference between the channels
• The channels were setup so channel overlapping
  was kept to a minimum

Wireless Range

• We decided on
• 100m for within a single room
• 20m for through walls
• 100m is larger than the radius of any room in
  city hall so one could cover an entire room

Final Coverage Approach

• Averaged number of WAPs which between fail safe
  and coverage plans
• Uses 13 WAPs
• Fewer more expensive WAPs were better than more
  cheaper WAPs
• Provides an acceptable level of coverage with
  some level of fail safe

Alternative Solutions

• There are a few alternative solutions
• Wiring only a few of the WAPs to the network
• Saves money due to not having to install and buy
  as many WAPs
• However it increases the chance of a bottleneck
  if some WAPs go down

• Instead of creating our own software to help and
  deal with users connecting to the network buy one
• This saves money in the short time due to
  software creation costs
