  • STAR reading practice.
  • Activities will include reading workbook pages
    and multiple choice reading assessments.
  • Students at all ability levels will be challenged
and enriched. There are challenge projects.
  • Your student will take two formative reading
tests and a final test at the end of each
trimester. It is aligned to the report card
standards and is used for report card grades.

5
Writing
  • Some common writing forms will be taught, such as
the five-paragraph essay, research reports and
summaries of narrative and expository text.
  • Our main focus will be narratives, responses to
literature, and persuasive writing. Your student
will take a district assessment in each of the
three main focus areas and will take a final
assessment in one of those three areas.
  • Peer editing and revising will be a key
component. While I do look at all student
writing, not everything will be given a grade.

6
Vocabulary
  • Students will be expected to learn the meaning of
    all spelling words.
  • Students should use their reading to learn new
    words through context clues.
  • The vocabulary program focuses on roots,
    prefixed, and suffixes.
  • Students are given a weekly packet on Fridays,
which is due the following Friday, the same day
    as the test.
