Modifications
  • The starting point uses basically all the
modifications presented by Guillaume and Yun (use
of more than 64 particles at a time, etc)
  • The output file with the coordinates of each
particle at each turn is disabled (for 105 turns
it would mean output files of the order of
    GBytes)
  • A new DO loop is added so that for every turn the
rms spread of the action of the 64 particles
packs is calculated and every 100 turns this 64
rms values are averaged and printed on a new
    output file.

Capabilities, input/output, limitations
  • The code gives as output a much smaller file
which has the data needed for the diffusion
calculation, made simple if we define it as
  • The input files are the same ones used for the
    long-term calculations fort.2, fort.3, fort.16
and a file with the initial distribution of the
tracked particles in phase space (6D)
  • From diffusion calculations it is possible to run
a job of 640 particles (10 packs of 64 particles
with the same initial action) and 105 turns in
about 8-10 hours in a conventional PC.
  • This is limited by the fact that SixTrack runs 64
particles at a time but is easy to overcome.
