Welcome to Third Grade!
  • I will introduce you to third grade and to our
    classroom.

All About Me
  • My background
  • I grew up in East Windsor, CT!!!.
  • I attended Wharehouse Point Elementary School,
    Broad Brook Elementary, East Windsor Middle
    School, East Windsor High School, Westfield State
    College and Lesley University.
  • My experience
  • Ive been teaching for 10 years.
  • I have my Masters Degree in Education
  • I received Teacher of the Year for 2009

My Family
  • I am married to my husband, Steve.
  • I have one son named Eric, who is 4, and a
    daughter Emily, who is 6.
  • We have a dog named Lucy and a cat named Magnus.
  • We live in Broad Brook.

My Goals
  • To give you learning and organizational skills
    that you need to go on to fourth grade.
  • To have an exciting and fun classroom
    environment.
  • To help you make new friends and discover new
    interests.

Reading Block
  • In Reading, reading in our own independent books
    that we choose.
  • Each day I will read aloud to you from some of my
    favorite books.
  • We will practice all the different reading
    strategies together and on our own.

Writing Block
  • In Writing Block, we will use the writing process
    to brainstorm, plan, write rough drafts, edit,
    revise and publish stories.
  • We will share what we write aloud with our
    classmates.
  • We will also make some class books.

Spelling/Word Block
  • In Spelling/Word Block, we will work with words
    to find patterns and ways to help us use correct
    spelling in all of our daily writing.
  • We will use a fun Spelling Menu to make our
    Spelling Practice fun!

Math
  • In Math each day, we will begin our day with a
    Math morning meeting.
  • We will work together to become math experts in
    Problem Solving.
  • We will work to memorize our multiplication
    facts, and have an ice cream sundae party for our
    hard work. Be on the look out for Mrs. Bavas
    Fact Challenge!

Science
  • We will learn together as we study about animals,
    plants, the earth and sky, systems, and the
    science process skills.

Social Studies
  • In Social Studies, we will learn about our
    community, East Windsor.
  • We will learn how East Windsor is alike and
    different from other communities in the United
    States.

Music, Art, and Physical Education
  • We will have Library, Art, PE, Music and
    Computers for 40 minutes once a week.

Classroom Community
  • Our classroom is a community. In our community,
    we have rules to help us get along with each
    other.
  • As third graders at Broad Brook Elementary, we
    will
  • 1. Be respectful and kind.
  • 2. Be responsible.
  • 3. Be truthful and honest.
  • 4. Behave in a way that allows teachers to teach
    and others to learn.
  • 5. Always do our best.

Homework
  • I will assign homework almost every night.
  • You will have a homework folder with two pockets
    one for items to leave at home and one for items
    to bring back to school the next day.
  • You will also have an agenda book that must be
    signed by an adult each evening.
  • Both the homework folder and agenda book, along
    with any text books and library books must be at
    school every day.
  • Homework is due at 915 each morning!

Field Trips
  • We have lots of fun field trips planned for this
    year!
  • We will go to the Senior Center to read to
    them.
  • We will have a picnic to meet our Pen Pals.
  • We will also have another field trip that will be
    announced later.
