• Select the patient and create a walk in
  appointment
• Check no to the question about which provider the
  care is being carried out under
• The appointment should now be created

• Document the care provided as desired
• Make sure the defaults in the disposition module
  are set to the appropriate service type so the
  correct E/M code for an inpatient consult is made
  available

• Once the consult is completed in AHLTA print out
  a hard copy and place it on the inpatient chart
• Label the encounter as a consult and place it in
  the appropriate section of the inpatient chart

Open Patients record Choose New Appt

Pick an appointment type

Choose No because your specialty is different as
the consultant

Inpatient shows up as new patient in your clinic

• Change setting to hospital inpatient
• Change service type to initial inpatient (if that
  applies)
• Note that the initial inpatient e/m codes are
  high value

• Make sure to change the setting and service type
  to appropriately code for f/u inpatient consults
