Title: AP3030A PlansLists Workshop Using the SPS and other BR software applications to obtain the technical
1AP30/30A Plans/Lists WorkshopUsing the SPS and
other BR software applications to obtain the
technical examination results
2Procedures for the assessment of the impact of a
newly proposed satellite network
- Let us examine two basic procedures
- One that uses the results of analysis published
on the BR IFIC (simplest) - Conducting a technical analysis by performing
calculations and analysing the results(requires
some working knowledge of SPS and software for
analysis in shared bands).
In both cases it is necessary to install the SPS
software application. For the second approach, it
is necessary to install Microsoft ACCESS (v.2000
or later). If results in shared bands are
required - GIBC and SpaceCap should be also
installed. There are other approaches that use
other algorithms and methods for compatability
analysis. These procedures exceed the scope of
this workshop.
3Procedure for the analysis of the results
published on the BR IFIC (1)
- The main steps are
- Copying the compressed database, which contains
the results of calculations, from the BR IFIC to
the users computer - Un-ziping the databases (desirable to un-zip only
the necessary databases) - Running the SPS Reporting Tool (SPS_REPORTs.exe)
and opening the results database for the network
to be studied - Select the version of the analysis (database can
store several versions of calculations)
4Procedure for the analysis of results published
on the BR IFIC (2)
- Choose the type of report
- Specify the search parameters to be used for
retrieval of data for the networks/assignments of
interest - Retrieving, analysing and printout of the
results - If results in shared bands are also required
- Open the SPS database using Microsoft ACCESS.
Open the tr_aff_ntw table - In the ntc_id field, use the filter for tool
to find the networks/assignments possibly
affected by the networks/assignments of interest.

10Practical exercise on analysing the results of
technical examination, published on the BR IFIC
- Copy the compressed database, which contains the
results of calculations, from the BR IFIC to your
computer - Select and unzip one of the databases with the
results of analysis - Run the SPS reports sub-system and obtain the
results of analysis for the administration
selected by you - Repeat the foregoing step using other search
criteria and combinations - Close report.
11Detailed analysis approach using BR software and
databases
- If the user does not have the output results
database or wants more detailed information, it
is possible to run a technical analysis. Two main
phases are included - Technical analysis with other assignments/networks
belonging to the same Plan/List (using SPS
software and SPS database) considered in this
workshop - Technical analysis to identify probably affected
services/networks in shared bands (using GIBC,
SpaceCap software and the merged SPS/SRS
database) optional in this workshop. This
presentation includes several slides describing
the phase II basic methodology.
12I. Detailed analysis approach using theSPS
software and database (SPS DB) (1)
- To carry the technical analysis with other
assignments / networks belonging to the same
Plan/List, the user should - Copy the zipped SPS database (SPS DB) from the BR
IFIC or the ITU website to the users computer - Un-zip this database, rename it and change the
file status (it is Read only on CD) to disable
the read-only attribute - Change the Type of Assignment value for the
"interfering network from V to A in the
NTF_OCCURS field of the NOTICE table
13I. Detailed analysis approach using theSPS
software and database (SPS DB) (2)
- Starting the compatability analysis sub-system,
select the input database, names of the output
data files (including the output database) and
the level of details - Select the Plan/List to be analysed and the date
of receipt of the last network to be taken into
account in the analysis (for the purposes of
excluding the analysis of networks submitted at
later dates) - Run the analysis
- Analyse the results with the use of the reports
sub-system and also, if necessary, the detailed
report .

18Practical exercise using the detailed analysis
procedure Phase I (1)
- Copy the compressed SPS database from the BR IFIC
to your computer - Un-zip the SPS DB, rename it, and disable the
read-only attribute - open the SPS DB using Microsoft ACCESS, open the
NOTICE table, find the network of interest and
change the value of the field NTF_OCCURS of this
network from V to A - perform a calculation taking into account the
date of receipt of the network - examine the results of calculation, using the
reports sub-system
19Practical exercise using the detailed analysis
procedure Phase I (2)
- Close the report
- select the most interesting channel and conduct
calculation with the maximum level of details for
it - open the text file with results of detailed
calculation, using NOTEPAD - analyse the results in the detailed report.
20II. Analysis in shared bands using GIBC, SpaceCap
and merged SPS/SRS database (1)
- To identify potentially affected
services/networks in shared bands, the user
should - Copy the latest SRS database from the SRS-on-CD
(or your own SRS DB) to the users computer and
rename it - Start SpaceCap software, click the Open database
option from the File menu and browse for the SPS
data file obtained from steps a) and b) of the
phase I - Select PLAN from the tool bar
- Select one Plan from the list by double-clicking
on it. - Select all networks in the Plan.
- Click on the Export option from the menu on the
right.
21II. Analysis in shared bands using GIBC, SpaceCap
and merged SPS/SRS database (2)
- Click on the Set Target Db button and select the
SRS database copied to your local disk (and
renamed) in step a) - Make sure that the Keep Group Ids of the sources
option is checked. Then press the OK button. In
order to have a full version of the merged
database you have to repeat steps from d) to this
one for every Plan/List - Start GIBC software, click on the Tools and
options tab and select the extended SRS database
produced in steps from c) to h)
22II. Analysis in shared bands using GIBC, SpaceCap
and merged SPS/SRS database (3)
- Select tab with the required analysis according
to RR (PFD for protection of terrestrial
services, PXT for protection of space services
(down-link), ?T/T for protection of space
services (feeder-link)), type Notice Id of your
interest and start analysis. - Analyse results stored in the folder used for a
selected type of analysis (either in
C\PFDRESULTS \, C\PXTRESULTS\ or
C\APP8RESULTS \) specified at the bottom of the
GIBC graphical interface -
- Steps j) and k) may need to be repeated as many
times as the number of required analysis types
(according to RR).
