Early Life

• Born November 12, 1751 near Chamberg,
  Pennsylvania
• In 1756, Indians killed Margarets father and
  captured her mother
• She was an orphan after that (only 5 yrs. old)
  and raised by her uncle

Adulthood

• At age twenty-one, Margaret married John Corbin
• Margaret and John joined the Continental Army
• She would help soldiers train for the army and
  watch their drills

Importance in the Revolution

• Margaret cooked and washed clothes for the
  soldiers
• She fought alongside her husband
• When her husband was killed, she took his place

Later Years

• Margarets wound from fighting in the Revolution
  left her disabled
• She was the first woman to receive pension from
  the U S Government as a disabled soldier
• Margaret died in 1791 near West Point, NY and is
  buried there
