Title: Consultants

1
Consultants
  • You get two (2)
  • We cannot afford to find speakers who will
    address all of your issues
  • So . . . You get to find experts who will address
    YOUR issues

2
Ground Rules
  • The consultant is not to write the project
  • The consultant is your advisor
  • Therefore, s/he gives ADVICE
  • You need to give him/her material to give you
    advice about. . . .

3
Ground Rules
  • The consultant is not to be the creator of the
    basic idea of the project.
  • This is YOUR project
  • You tell them you want to go to Dennys s/he
tells you how to get there . . . .

4
Ground Rules
  • The Consultant can translate SOME stuff
  • S/he CANNOT translate a whole text (what are you
thinking? That would be a SERIOUS publication
and worth WAY more than 375)

5
Consultants
  • Are KEY to the project
  • Some people dont like using them, BUT
  • It is good to have outside, expert help

6
Consultants
  • Are necessary
  • If you dont need a consultant, why do you need
    to do the project?????

7
Consultants
  • Are difficult to maneuver
  • Are just like you
  • They have other things going on

8
Consultants
  • Are not paid that well
  • Are, like you, doing this because they think it
is important, not simply for the money (its only
    375)
  • Need to feel that they are valued

9
How to . . .
  • Find an area consultant
  • Use one of our agreeable speakers
  • (cue to Good Lisa to give the email addresses)

How to . . .
  • Look at a Title VI Center
  • There are Six(?) in the neighborhood
  • The closest have been listed on, you guessed it,
    the website
  • They are required to do outreach to maintain
    their Title VI Center status

11
How to . . .
  • Secure an area consultant
  • Email him/her asking if s/he would be willing to
    do it NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • If s/he doesnt answer email, you dont want to
work with this person anyway and move on to the
    next one. . . .
  • Send him/her the contract (coming to your mailbox
    next week)
