• Christianity is based on the life and teachings
  of Jesus Christ
• Christ was born around 4 B.C. and died by
  crucifixion around 30 A.D.
• He was born in a stable in Bethlehem and raised
  in Nazareth

• Most Christians belong to one of three major
  groups
• Roman Catholic
• Eastern Orthodox
• Protestant

Roman Catholicism

• This led to the construction of huge churches of
  fine stonework that took several lifetimes to
  build. It also led to conflicts like the
  Crusades, where wave after wave of soldiers
  marched against the Infidels to free Jerusalem.
  One such wave consisted of children, because they
  were young enough to still be pure of heart.
  Most of these crusades ended in disaster.

• The beginnings of Christian religious tradition
  is closely tied to the Catholic church. During
  the low points of the European Dark Ages, the
  Catholic church emerged as the consistent force
  and a reason to risk life and limb.
