14Advanced Searching CINAHL Headings
- Controlled subject headings denote aboutness of
an article/book/etc. - Help find articles on a topic regardless of words
used in title/abstract
15Browsing for CINAHL Headings
- Click CINAHL Headings button
- Browsing menu suggest Relevancy Ranked option
- Also could use Term begins with or Term contains
these match vocabulary not meaning - Can choose heading straight from results
- Hyperlink to more information about heading
- Can build a search using multiple headings

- Shows location of term on the tree
- MUST explode term to get narrower terms
- Major concept main point of the article
- Specific subheadings (education, therapy, etc.)
- Process select options desired, then select the
proper Boolean option, and Add.

- Search forward and backward in scholarly time by
tracing items in bibliographies - Finds articles that are similar because of
citation links rather than keywords like
genealogy! - Find these by browsing OR by searching
- Show up on the retrieval form

- Start with results from a standard search.
- Some have a Times Cited in this Database link
- These are links to articles that cite the article
listed - 3 Options
- Cited references (parents)
- Citing articles (children)
- Related records (cousins)

- Tab on the top search bar
- Form to enter information about starting article
- When you get to the list of articles
- Click in the box to the left of the title
- Then Find Citing Articles
22Saving Results The Folder
- Click the Add to Folder or the folder icon to
temporarily save an article within the database - These are remembered in further searches in one
session - Click Folder View within a record to see saved
articles or go to the folder icon on the tool bar - Can print/save/email individual articles
- Also can save/email entire searches and
collections of articles - Can save to a reference management program

- CINAHL is the primary database for clinical and
academic literature in nursing and allied health - CINAHLs limits, subject headings, and journals
indexes allow for powerful searching - Cited article searching presents a new method for
finding articles

- About 21 of journals in CINAHL are available
with some full text - Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition is also
an option for nursing information - You can search multiple EBSCO databases at once
to expand options
