3Logging In To MeckMail
Click on Email at the top of MCPS homepage
- Log in with your user name and
- password
- Click Sign in and this will take
- you directly to your Inbox
- You can also access your email
- at http//mail.mcpsweb.org
4Opening Mail
- Your messages will appear in the center of the
screen with unread - messages appearing in bold.
- Click on the message you wish to read.
- To get back to your Inbox, click Inbox or
Back to Inbox link above your - message.
5Changing Your Password
- Click on Settings at the top
- right hand corner of your Inbox
- page.
- Click on the Accounts tab at the
- top.
- Scroll down to Change password
- and follow the directions on the
- screen.
- Changing your e-mail password
- will no longer effect your
- computer login.
6Deleting Messages
- Turn on the Checkbox for the message(s) you
wish to delete and then click - delete.
- Messages in Trash will automatically delete in
30 days. - If you delete a message by mistake, open the
Trash mailbox, select the - message with a check and click the Move to
Inbox button.
7Composing an Email
- Click the Compose Mail link in the left
column. - Fill in to whom the message is going to and
what - its about.
- Type your message in the body section and click
- the Send button.
If you do not type in a subject you will get this
message.
8Search for a Contact
- When composing an email, you can find contacts
from your contacts and ALL MCPS employees by
choosing Choose from contacts. - Adding a contact to the To box is as easy as
typing a name in the search box and then clicking
on their name. - When you click on their name, you will notice
their name appears in the To box at the bottom
and a check appears beside the name you just
clicked on. - When you have added all the contacts you need,
you can click done. - After you add all the contacts you need, if this
seems to be a group of people you email often,
you can click on save as group before you click
done. More details on the next page.
Type part of the name. Can be first or last! As
you type, your choices will narrow down.
9Save as a Group
- Click on Save as Group
- Type a name for the group and then click OK.
- When you click OK, a message should pop up saying
your group has been created. - Groups were called Distribution Lists in the
previous e-mail system.
10Adding Cc or Bcc
- By clicking on the Add Cc or Add Bcc buttons, a
new box will open under the To box. - Cc, carbon copy, means you are sending an exact
copy of the email to the addresses you type in
that box and the person your message is to can
see that you sent copies to someone else. - Bcc, blind carbon copy, means you are sending an
exact copy of the email to the addresses you type
in that box but the person your message is to can
not see that you sent copies to someone else.
11Attaching A File
- To send or attach a file to an
- an email
- Click the Attach a File
- link.
- Browse to the particular
- file that you need, select
- it, and then click the
- Open button.
- The name of the attached
- file will appear under your
- Subject line.
- Click remove to take the
- attachment off of the
- e-mail.
12Formatting Emails
- To format your text, highlight what you want to
format and then click the button that corresponds
with what you want to do to your text.
13Check Spelling
- After composing your message, click on Check
Spelling. - All possible spelling errors will be
highlighted. - Ignore all that words you know are spelled
correctly. - Click on the highlighted word to get a list of
alternate spellings. - You can select the correct spelling from the
list by clicking on it.
14Conversations
Unread messages are indicated in bold The number
of messages in a conversation are indicated in
the parentheses
- Conversations are automatically created when you
reply to emails. - All emails that reply to the original message are
grouped together for easy reference. - You can see the three most recent responders
included in the conversation. - If someones name is bold, it means they have
added a new reply to the conversation that you
have not read. - More than one name can be bold. This means there
is more than one unread reply. - The number in parenthesis shows how many messages
are grouped together in that conversation.
15Unread Conversations
Read responses from top to bottom. Newest
messages are at the bottom.
- When you have more than one unread email
regarding a conversation, all the new responses
will open. - The newest e-mail will open at the bottom of the
conversation.
16New Responses to Conversations
Click on previous layers to reread responses.
New response or reply to a conversation.
- When new replies are written, regarding a
conversation, the read emails are layered above
the new reply. - You can click on previous layers to reread the
responses.
17Folders
- Inbox All new messages are put in this folder.
- They stay here until you move
them. - Starred All messages or conversations you have
- assigned stars will be visible
in this - folder.
- Chats Keeps a log of all instant messaging
- chats you have
- Sent Mail All messages you compose and send are
- stored in this folder.
- Drafts These are composed messages that you
- started, but have not sent
yet. - All Mail This folder shows mail from every
folder, - including your archived mail.
Spam This is your junk mail folder. You may
want to check it periodically to be sure an
important email didnt get
marked as spam. Spam is automatically deleted
after 30 days. Trash This is where all the
emails you delete go. Trash is automatically
deleted after 30 days. Contacts This is where
you can see all of your contacts.
18Creating Labels
- Labels are similar to folders.
- Labels make it easy to find emails about the same
topic. - All your labels are on the left side of the
screen. - When you label emails, the labels show in the
subject line. - You can create labels 2 ways.

How to Create Labels
- Put a check beside all the emails you want to put
under a new label. - Click the arrow beside More Actions
- Click New label
- Type a name for your new label
- Click OK

How to create labels
- Click Edit Labels, in the Labels box.
- Scroll to the bottom to Create a new label.
- Type the name of your new label.
- Click Create.
- Notice your new label now appears alphabetically
in the correct spot.
21Editing Labels
- How to edit labels
- Go to Edit labels, in the Labels box.
- Click rename beside the label you want to rename.
- Replace the previous name with a new label name.
- Click OK.
22Deleting Labels
- How to delete labels
- Go to Edit labels, in the Labels box.
- Click remove beside the label you want to delete.
- Click OK to remove the label from all emails in
that group. - NOTE!! Removing a label will not delete the
messages with that label.

2. To add a new contact, click here!
1. Click on the Contacts link to get started.
3. This box will appear on the right. Add new
contact information, then click save.
How to add contacts
- From the Contact link on the left side of the
page you can view and add new contacts. - Add a new contact by clicking the button.
- Add contact information and then click save.
24Archiving Emails
- When you archive email you are clearing it out of
your Inbox and placing it in the All Mail box or
applied label folder. - Select the messages you want to archive
(checkbox) then click the Archive button. - Archived messages will still show up in searches
and in label folders. - If you want to move a message from All Mail back
to your Inbox, select it and click Move to
Inbox.

Input the subject, contact, or keyword here to
search for e-mails.
- Users can search for e-mails in their MeckMail
account. - Users are able to search by
- Subject or keyword
- E-mail contact
- Search using the contacts first name, last name,
or both - The e-mail system searches the subject line and
the body of the e-mail.

body or subject line of each of thee-mails
listed.
27Printing an E-mail
- When you need to print an e-mail, there is a
way to do it so that your email does not have
columns to the left and right or advertisements. - Open the email
- Click on the arrow beside Reply
- Choose Print from the options
- A Print box will pop up where you can change the
printer if necessary and click Print.

way as a single e-mail. - Open the e-mail
- Click on Print All on the right hand side
- A Print box will pop up where you can change the
printer if necessary and click Print.

- What happened to the e-mails in my meck.k12.va.us
account? - Emails were migrated or transferred into your new
e-mail account. - All emails in folders and sent mail were
transferred to your new account. - Did my contacts migrate to my new account?
- Contacts you created in your old account did not
migrate to the new account.

- What will happen to emails sent to my old
account? - All e-mails sent to your meck.k12.va.us account
will be automatically forwarded to your
mcpsweb.org account through the 1st semester. - How will people know my new e-mail address?
- Users will need to notify e-mail contacts of
their new e-mail address.
