• Vermont was called the Green mountain State
  because its green peeks cover the entire central
  part of Vermont ,making it the most scenic state.
• The mountains are great for skiers and
  attracting tourists!

Exploration in Vermont

• Samuel de Champlain was probably the first
  person to explore what is now Vermont. He arrived
  at Lake Champlain in1609 and claimed Vermont for
  France.

Settlement

• The first white settlement was at FORT Dummer,in
  what is now Brattelboro.Fort Dummer was built by
  Massachusetts settlements in 1724 to protect the
  colonies western settlements from raids by the
  French Indians.
