Title: SEXUALITY:
1SEXUALITY
The way it was in the Bible
By Mary Beth Lehman
2Fornication, Lovemaking, and Procreation
- Genesis 128 Be fruitful and multiply
- Leviticus 1516 And if any mans seed of
copulation go out from him, then he shall wash
all his flesh in water, and be unclean until the
even.
- During times of worship or intense religious time
spans sex was forbidden - -Exodus 1915 And he said unto the people,
Be ready against the third day come not at your
wives.
- Wartime was also considered a time for celibacy,
because only clean vessels were determined
deserving of a victory However.
-Deuteronomy 245 When a man hath taken a new
wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall
he be charged with any business but he shall be
free at home one year, and shall cheer up his
wife which he hath taken.
3Genitalia and the differences between boys and
girls
- The penis was sometimes viewed as such a sacred
entity that it was meant to be sworn on like the
Bible - -Genesis 4729 An he called his son Joseph
and said to him, If now I have found grace in thy
sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,
and deal kindly and truly with me. . .
- Also, any woman who fought a man by grabbing his
genitals was punished by having her hand cut off - -Deuteronomy 2511-12 When men strive
together one with another, and the wife of the
one draweth near for to deliver her husband out
of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth
forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets
Then thou shall cut off her hand, thy eye not
pity her.
4Continued Breasts
- We see that breasts are a big concern even in
biblical time - Size of Breasts
- Song of Solomon 88 "We have a little sister, and
she hath no breasts what shall we do for our
sister in the day when she shall be spoken for? - Breasts for pleasure and general enjoyment
- Proverbs 519 Let her be as the loving hind and
pleasant roe let her breasts satisfy thee at all
times and be thou ravished always with her love.
5Harlotry A bad or a good thing? --even the Bible
is unclear
- Leviticus 219 And the daughter of any priest,
if she profane herself by playing the whore, she
profaneth her father she shall be burnt with
fire.
- Although harlotry and being a prostitute was a
big sin, it was apparently ok if you were
important enough to purchase a prostitute - - Judges 161,4 Then went Samson to Gaza and
saw there an harlot, and went into her. . . And
it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman
in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. -
- -Genesis 3815,16 When Judah saw her, he thought
she was a harlot because she had covered her
face. And he turned unto her by the way, and
said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto
thee.
6Homosexuality
The controversial hot spot of the Bible
Those who use the Bible to express their
disapproval of homosexuality most often cite
-Leviticus 1822 Thou shalt not lie with
mankind as with womankind it is an abomination.
-Leviticus 2013 If a man also lie with mankind,
as he lieth with a woman, both of them have
committed an abomination they shall surely be
put to death their blood shall be upon them.
-Romans 126-27 For even their women did
change the natural use into that which was
against nature. . . And likewise also the men,
leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in
their lust toward one another men with men
working that which is unseemly, and receiving in
themselves that recompense of their error which
was met.
7Bestiality what the Bible has to say about it
- Leviticus 1823 Neither shall thou lie with any
beast to defile thyself therewith neither shall
any woman stand before a beast to lie down
thereto it is confusion.
- Deuteronomy 2721 Cursed be he that lieth with
any manner of beast. And all the people shall say
Amen.
8Bible Stories
about sexual deviance
David and Bathsheba
David sees Bathsheba, a married woman, bathing
and fills with lust for her. He calls her to him
and expresses his wishes to lie with her. She
tells him that she is unclean (menstruating) He
continues to pursue her and they sleep together.
She tells him later that she is with child, but
as her husband is off fighting a war, it would
not be imaginable that the child is his. So,
David calls her husband to him under the guise of
wanting a report of the battle, and while he is
there, David tells him to go home and spend some
quality time with his wife. Her husband,
however, refuses to leave his men, and continues
to sleep with them. David tries to get him drunk
and send him home, but it also does not work.
Frustrated, David sends the man to the front
lines of battle thereby having him killed. And
Bathsheba bore Davids son.
9Sodom and Gomorrah
Sodom and Gomorrah were two societies gone
awry. God has heard terrible things about the
cities and sends two angels down to see if it is
as bad as he has heard. The angels stay with Lot
and his family, but soon Lots house is
surrounded by the male citizens. The citizens
tell Lot to send the angels, who they know only
as men, out so that they may know them. Lot,
knowing what they mean, is not willing to
sacrifice the angels, and offers his two virgin
daughters two the angry mob. The angels are
spared, and God sends Lot and his family away
before raining down fire and brimstone on Sodom
and Gomorrah.
