Observe and Document Business Processes
  • From office walkthrough to performing actual

  • When observing current process, do not get locked
into current thinking when defining the future
    process
  • May be documented with workflow diagrams

2
Workflow Diagrams
  • Used to document, in diagram form, how a business
activity, or transaction is carried out in a
    business
  • Workflow diagram documents a complete activity
    or transaction (input process output).
  • Can be used to define how things are done today
AND how things should be done in the future (with
    new system)
  • Describes the manual and automated procedures
associated with an activity (not details about
    the system functions/data)
  • Key input to modeling system requirements
  • Many types of diagrams can be used we will
    discuss activity diagrams.

    number of stakeholders

    information
  • Open-ended questions vs. close-ended questions

8
JAD Sessions
  • Used to expedite the investigation of systems
    requirements
  • Seeks to compress fact-finding, modeling, policy
formation, and verification activities into a
