9- Bells Bend
- SoundForest.org has already planted native tree
species including Serviceberry, Sycamore,
American Hornbeam, White Oak, Swamp White Oak,
and Overcup Oak to help the park's tree canopy
recover. - Currently the 808 acre park only has a mere 16
tree canopy cover. An overwhelming majority of
the land has been taken over by invasive species
including Privet and Honeysuckle among many
others. - SoundForest is working with the Park to help
remove invasive plants and re-establish a healthy
forest habitat. - Recommendation A riparian zone is needed!
- Proposal re-establish a riparian zone along the
Cumberland River to help prevent erosion, improve
water quality, and create much needed habitat for
wildlife and humans. - Plan
- Begin working in phases starting with a 5 acre
Riparian Zone planting along the Cumberland
River. Divide ¼ acre plots along the waterfront
and focus planting select tree species.
