Attendance Elizabeth King, Dale Gehring,
Elizabeth Merrill, Charlie Lake, Mark Lewis,
Brett Gantz, Julie Hatten
- Financial Update (Dale)
- The PL and Balance Sheets were reviewed
- The membership has been invoiced for 2008 dues,
total 200k - 50 of members have paid dues. Potentially 25
of members could drop out based on Julies sense
of their lack of participation, etc. By March
31st, Julie will contact those still outstanding
and offer to collect dues via credit card - Credit card machine is set up on Julies desk,
machine cost 440. Julie can take payments over
phone and key in the card number and swipe cards.
Machine can be transported to events - Class and event payments are now due one week
prior to events. We want to encourage members to
pay to reserve their seat in the class
- Mfg. Workforce Strategy Update (Charlie)
- The OBA HPC and EV-HPEC will receive additional
funding in 2008 - Critical Steering Committee meeting is scheduled
for March 5th at ESCO - Allen Alley, Duncan Weiss, Steve Pratt, Elizabeth
King and others attending - Focus of meeting is to identify and create a
focused, common legislative agenda to take to
Salem. Goal is to funnel state funds to support
industry needs, support existing consortia, fund
new consortia, identify training needs for
incumbent and pipeline workers, and create a
roll-out plan - Mark Lewis and Elizabeth mentioned the Feds are
taking back some funding that has been awarded.
Charlie has the action to contact Claire to
discuss and see if this affects the OWMS
- New Business
- Mark reviewed his discussion with Mike Fenske of
the Energy Trust of Oregon. There may be some
training available to NWHPEC members. Julie also
has a meeting scheduled with Mike on March 3rd
and will report back to the Board - The Board discussed creating learning tracks or
themes to ensure were meeting our members
needs - Developing People/Culture Supported by Mike
Hoseus, Mike Rother, TWI JI training, etc. - Lean Tools/Processes Supported by
Learn-Lead-Teach, includes Admin/Office - Sustainability Lean/Green focus. We havent
offered much in this area - Innovation Lean NPI, Idea Systems (Alan
Robinson), Durward Sobek - Julie has the action to identify past and current
speakers and offerings and create a spreadsheet
for the Board to review - Elizabeth King discussed a meeting center she
recently found. Elizabeth has the action to
provide Julie the name of the meeting center - Julie reviewed an e-mail she received from Adam
Garfein, co-author of Profit Mapping, who
inquired about presenting to NWHPEC. After
discussion, the Board declined - Elizabeth King discussed ESCO is creating Problem
Escalation curriculum, based on Ideas are Free.
Mark has the action to see if Rick Alvarado would
like to participate on the curriculum development
team - Julie discussed her efforts in member outreach.
Julie is setting up meetings with all members,
starting with the inactive members, to touch
base for 2008. To date, Julie has requested
meetings with 24 members and has met with four,
two meetings scheduled for 3/11 and 4/8. She has
not heard back from 18 companies.

New Business (continued) - Julie presented a
copy of a 5S Interactive Training CD to the Board
members. This CD was created by the RV
Consortium and EV-HPEC and EWTF money was used.
Julie has updated our website library with this
CD. Julie suggested we provide a copy of this CD
to the suppliers attending future Supplier Days.
Julie has the action to send Brett and Kyle their
copies of the 5S CD

- Learning Tours May through November booked.
April, August, and December are still open. Mark
to check on Woodfolds ability to host and Dale
and Elizabeth will check with ESCOs Main Plant
to potentially host in December - Training Classes Week of April 14th booked with
Learn-Lead-Teach for Problem Solving, 5S Kaizen,
and Intro to Lean. Intro to Lean class held at
OIT for no cost. - Julie received feedback from the host companies
who felt their cost of 200 per person was high.
The Board discussed and agreed to lower the host
companies per person cost to 125.00. Julie has
the action to contact the host cos with this
information. - The Board discussed potentially offering seats in
classes to companies who attended Supplier Day.
This is a great way to get them involved in Lean
and further introduce to NWHPEC. A non-member
fee was discussed of 250 to 300. - Supplier Day Held February 21st at Gunderson.
Very successful with 23 people attending. Great
feedback from suppliers. Mark suggested the SCM
SIG discuss whether this day will stand alone
or if they want to create a supplier track.
Julie has the action to discuss this further with
Kyle - Executive Forums
- Potential Engineering Symposium with Durward
Sobek week of May 19th. Dale and Julie should
hear from Durward regarding his schedule 2/29 - Pascal Dennis Declined due to schedule
conflicts and being too busy - Mike Hoseus Scheduled for May 9th. Julie is
working with Mike to set days content. Thought
is to have Mike out three to four times/yr with
each session building on the previous session - John Shook Julie contacting John. John
recently toured ESCOs Plant 3 and has been
working with Nike - Alan Robinson Possible fall forum. Julie to
contact Alan and discuss availability and fees - Sustainability Board discussed offering Exec.
Forum on topic of sustainability. Julie to
research Oregons Natural Step for ideas
