What is Metadata Parser?

• Validates metadata
• Checks for valid elements
• Checks for required elements
• Converts between different file formats
• MS-DOS based executable

Metadata Hazing Ritual Using mp in DOS!

• Usage mp -e efile -c cfile -t tfile -h
  hfile -s sfile -x xfile input_file
• Where efile will contain syntax errors
• cfile contains configuration info
• tfile will contain text output
• hfile will contain html output
• sfile will contain sgml output
• xfile will contain xml output
• Example mp -e soils.err -h soils.html s
  soils.sgml t soils.txt
• c npsconfig.cfg soils.txt

History of Posting

• Post metadata to clearinghouse at NCSU
• Email metadata (three formats) and data to NCSU
  must parse
• Wait for it to be posted
• Static HTML pages

• User interface to metadata parser
• Integrated with Tools Editor extension
• User upload to Data Store - immediate
• Single file format XML must parse
• Dynamic, searchable interface

eliminate migration into DOS Avoids
