• only the enduement of the Spirit would make a
  difference

1. authority v18

• Jesus possessed authority during his earthly
  ministry but
• the sphere in which he exercises authority is
  widened and now includes the whole of heaven and
  earth cf
  Phil.2.5-11 Daniel 7.13f
• more than that offered by Satan!

2. nations v19

• there is therefore no alien territory for the
  gospel.all nations and peoples
• primary command is to make disciples
• someone who is striving to follow Jesus!
• going moved into the neighbourhood
• baptizing submit to his Lordship
• teaching desire to learn

3. things v20

• the focus is on the commands of Jesus
• there will never come a time when these will be
  outmoded or superseded!
• not theoretical understanding, but obedience
  which is required!
• it is a cyclical process a failure to disciple
  others is a failure in our own discipleship!

4. the time v20

• the gospel however finishes with a promisethe
  assurance of his comforting presence!
• surely Immanuel God with us 1.23
• always lit. the whole of every day
• in one sense, the gospel of Matthew continues to
  be written
