7The only two political parties represented in the
Maltese parliament (the MLP and PN) are both
proposing a golf course on this magical plateau!

9Did you ever think how much the Maltese economy
could benefit if the only two parties represented
in parliament were to involve all stakeholders
and manage our countryside better?

16Paul Abela, president, GRTU, and one of the
Maltese speculators said that those who love
nature and want to safeguard it for future
generations are armchair critics, weaklings
and faint-hearted Times
of Malta Wednesday, August 17, 2005.
Being called names is a small price to pay for
saving the invaluable for all future generations ?
17and I dont mind being called.whatever!
18No golf course is a money-spinner. It is the
development around it which is the pot of gold.
Destroying the last wilderness areas is a
negligible sacrifice for those who expect to make
millions from more buildings. For all others
far into the future it is a dead loss.
Once building commences
Some Maltese developers seem to equate nature
with nothingness
19as a result, the Republic of Malta is already
the most populated country in the world after
Macao and Singapore, with the little free/public
spaces left being engulfed by speculators
Maltese territory does not surpass 320 square
kilometres and one third of this is already
covered in buildings and cement. is this the way
forward to attract quality tourism?
20and yet, one in every five houses in the Maltese
islands, is completely empty!
21Then you read that somebody is selling them all
off, for golf. For golf? In a sacred desert?
....
22 what the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Arabs,
the Byzantines, the Normans, the Swabians, the
Angevins, the Aragonese, the Spanish, the
Knights, the French, or even the British ever
thought of doing what could be done by one man
23he could change the place forever
24Today's Prime Minister feels he has the
authority to turn the place into a golf course.
Can he ever be made to understand his own epochal
transgression? Will it happen in time?
25What will you do about it? Yes, you!
26now, before it is all lost forever. Just tell
someone, anyone about the power of the place
27 decide to discover it! Take your children
andgrandchildren walking there. Do it, before
it is all gone for good. Dr. Harry Vassallo

38This is probably a taste of the future, if the
Prime Minister, Opposition Party and some local
businessmen have their way. Peter Llewellyn -

39the unfortunate incidents of the 13th August
2005 in which an educational walk organized by
Ceratonia Foundation and AD Gozo Regional
Committee was disrupted by the illegal erection
of a gate across the access road to Ta Cenc .

40The only sources of recreation for our citizens
are the sea and the little countryside that is
left. The first has long been and is continuing
to be sold to the owners of fish farms and the
beaches to private developers the second to
building speculators who want to develop golf
courses for their own profit.
41this ecologic irresponsibility must stop now. We
have a duty to leave something for the Maltese
and Gozitans of tomorrow. Prof. Arnold Cassola
