Appreciation Day in 1993, with the goal of
honoring those who faithfully serve in the
ministry of Sunday School.

Every Sunday

Sunday School teachers nationwide dedicate
themselves to teaching the Word of God to
children, youth and adults.

Churches across America
are invited to set aside the third Sunday in
October as a day to honor Sunday School teachers
for their dedication, hard work and life-changing
impact on students lives.

An integral part of Sunday School Teacher
Appreciation Day
is the national search for the Sunday School
Teacher of the Year.

The Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award was
established in honor of Dr. Henrietta Mears.
Churches are encouraged to nominate their
favorite Sunday School teacher for this unique
award.

On the nomination form, nominators share ...
- How their Sunday School teacher shows
dedication to teaching the Word of God
- shows creativity in the classroom
- and gets involved in their students lives.

This year, over 300 churches representing 43
states nominated their teachers for The 2003
Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award.

Diane has taught the Adult Sunday School class
for over 3 years.

I have never been so hungry for the Word until
being under the gifted tutelage of Diane Davis.
She doesnt just stand before us with a lesson
plan, she is part of our lives, our childrens
lives and she lives the Word she teaches.

Kerstin has taught the 5th 6th grade Sunday
School class for over 10 years.

She brings the Bible to life for her students.
Her teaching ability has gained respect of many
other teachers. She has helped me not only as a
student, but I have grown as a teacher as well.

For over 21 years Cindy has taught the
Pre-School Sunday School class.

She is firm in teaching the Word of God at the
level of her students so that even at their young
years, they understand what a Christian
relationship with Christ means. Cindy treats
kids ages 2-6 as important as adults.

Delphia has taught the Jr. High Sunday School
class for over 3 years.

She writes and helps perform plays that depict
the struggles of Christian teens. She also
attends school activities that her students are
involved in and plans activities that would
further instill Gods teachings to the youth.

Jane has taught Sunday School for over 21 years.
She currently teaches the Adult Sunday School
class.

Jane performs skits for church services, events
and birthday parties. This is a photo of one of
her many characters. She has led many people to
the Lord by her sense of humor and making people
feel like no matter where they came from, God is
able.

For over 3 years, Maria has been teaching the 4th
5th grade Sunday School class.

What makes Maria stand out is the fact that she
has Multiple Sclerosis and has had to recently
quit her job because of her Christian values.
Through it all she has been true to the Lord and
faithful to His work.

Tim has faithfully taught the 2nd grade Sunday
School class for over 30 years.

His nominator said
Tims year has been such a struggle with four
brain surgeries and blindness. He is a picture
of faith and perseverance. His first words after
surgery were, Ive got to get dressed for Sunday
School.

Rita has taught the 1st through 5th grade Sunday
School class for over 6 years.

Rita is always organizing projects to raise
support for the children. She has seen that many
of her Sunday School students have a nice
Christmas that would have otherwise been
impossible. She does her best to see that their
needs are met.

Pre-School Sunday School class.

My 4 year old daughter wants to read from the
Bible daily because of Ferns encouragement to do
so.

Once in 1st grade, I had to write a story about
someone that I admired. I wrote about Mrs. Fern.
She taught me about Jesus and she loved me.

My father provides a healthy and trustworthy
