• February 1998-MCJ begins liver transplant program
  with approx 55 transplants per year
• June 2000-MCJ begins kidney and kidney/pancreas
  transplant
• January 2001-MCJ begins heart transplant program
• March 2001-MCJ begins lung transplant program
• 2004- MCJ grows into largest program in country
  performing approx 250 transplants a year
• April 2008-MCJ opens new Mayo Clinic Hospital

The Concept and Goal

• To internalize and streamline the organ recovery
  process for Mayo Clinic Transplant Center while
  providing continuity to the host OPO and Mayo
  Clinics recovery and transplant teams.

Internal Procurement Department

• With the fast growth of the MCJ transplant
  program, the procurement department grew from 2
  RNs who did both coordination and perfusion to 3
  full time coordinators and 4 full time perfusion
  techs.

Selection Conference

  responsibilities, selection conference, and other
  practice management responsibilities

Conclusion

• Having an internal procurement department and
  individual coordinators streamlines the entire
  donor/transplant process and has numerous
  benefits to not only the transplant center but
  the host OPO as well!
