The Overseas School of Colombo has a long
tradition of working with local communities
through its service projects. It now runs a range
of activities that help OSC students connect with
local concerns in Colombo. The destructive
December 26th Tsunami helped focus the work on
relief and rehabilitation along affected
coastlines.

A Clarification about CAS and Service
Projects A Clarification about CAS and Service
Projects CAS is a term used in the IB Diploma
Program for a wide range of extracurricular
activities that are designed to balance academic
classes and give IB Diploma students a well
rounded education. It stands for Creativity,
Action and Service. IB Diploma are expected to
complete 150 hours of CAS in order to receive the
IB Diploma. OSC also has similar requirements of
CAS hours for those not doing the IB Diploma. In

MYP Service Expectations
MYP students are expected to participate in a
service project for at least one semester of
every year. This is especially important in the
10th grade in order to receive the MYP
certificate. Grades 6-7 are required to complete
10 hrs, Grades 8-9 - 15 hrs and Grade 10 20
hrs.

sterilization camps for street dogs, fund raising
for such programs etc.

This activity is working at reducing campus waste
through the collection and sorting of recyclables
on campus
