Fossil Dig Science Simulation 3D Dynamically
Modifiable Terrain Engine
Ian Rutherford Supervisor David
Carrington
  • Dynamically Modifiable Terrain Engine
  • This Dynamically Modifiable Terrain Engine (DMTE)
was designed to be an integral part of the Fossil
    Dig Science Simulation game.
  • Through the graphical representation of a real
fossil excavation site, the DMTE allows
  • Players to interact with a virtual dig-site,
    including
  • Using digging tools and specialised apparatus
  • Unearthing and excavating fossils
  • Dynamic modification of the ground surface in
    real-time to simulate digging progress.

Progress to Date The DMTE software engine has
been written with Microsoft Visual Basic .Net
2003 and uses the Microsoft DirectX 9c graphics
libraries. A 3D model of the dig-site can be
loaded into the engine and the user is given the
ability to modify the ground surface in
real-time. This research will set the basis for
future development into the Fossil Dig Science
Simulation.
