HOUSING

• People of the eastern woodlands lived in wigwams
• It was built with poles in an oval shape bent to
  make a dome
• It was covered with strips of elm or birch bark.
  There was a fire in the middle of the wigwam
• They used the sides for sitting and sleeping

FOOD

• They lived near rivers so they can farm
• The main crop was corn
• They also grew beans and squash
• They hunted deer, rabbit, squirrel, and birds.
• They also fished in rivers and lakes
• They hung meat on racks over a fire for a very
  long time which preserved the meat.

Recreation

• The Algonquians had feasts for special occasions.
• They sometimes tattooed their faces.
• Long hair is their hair style and is greased for
  luster.
• Men might pluck their hair to remind them of
  their hair style.

Values

• Algonquians believed that everything has a
  spirit.
• They thought they could chose their way of life
  by following their dreams.
• Mothers asked their children if they had a dream
  cause it needs to be considered!

Clothing

• During warmer months, men wear only breechcloths.
• In the winter the men wear only moccasins,
  leggings, breechcloths, and robes.
• Women wear skirts made from a rectangular skin
  wrapped around the waist.

Environment

• Near the Appalachian Mountains
• There are many lakes, rivers, and streams in this
  area
• Almost all forests
• There are very distinct seasons.
