Title: Michael Jordan..Enough Said by Matt Celestin
1Michael Jordan..Enough Saidby Matt Celestin
2- I am sure that when many people think of Michael
Jordan they probably think he was some kind of
child prodigy or something, but did you know that
he was cut from the varsity basketball team his
sophomore year in high school?
3- This presentation will discuss three reasons that
Michael Jordan is one of the best, well-rounded
athletes in the history of sports - 1.) His basketball stats
- 2.) His transfer to baseball
- 3.) He is a good role model in and outside of
sports
4 Stats
- Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player
in NBA history. He was a phenomenal athlete
with a unique combination of grace, power,
artistry and improvisational ability, Michael
Jordan has single-handedly redefined the NBA
superstar (NBA Media Ventures). Jordans stats
alone speak for their self. He was the kind of
player that never really had an off day and
could not be shaken in his game. Michael was a
great leader on his team, The Chicago Bulls, and
his team knew he was the kind of player that they
could always depend on and look to when they
needed help the most. Jordan was, in basketball
terms, a clutch player, which means he could be
counted on in the high pressure situations. He
has probably made more game winning shots than
anyone. - When the game came down to the wire, the Chicago
Bulls relied on Michael Jordan to take over and
lead his team to victory. (A Michael Jordan
Tribute)
5 Stats
-
- Some of Jordans most impressive stats include
- These stats were cited from (NBA Media Ventures).
- He was part of six NBA championship teams.
- He was the MVP of the NBA five times, of the
Finals six times, and of the All-Stars three
times. - Jordan holds the record for most seasons leading
the league in scoring, which is ten seasons(7
which were consecutive). - He finished his career with 32,292 points, 5,633
assists and 6,672 rebounds. - These are only a few, the list goes on and on and
it is unbelievable how much he has accomplished
throughout his career.
6- A Swing at Baseball
- One thing that makes Michael standout as an all
around athlete is that he not only is the
greatest basketball player, he also made a switch
to play baseball in the middle of his career for
the Chicago White Soxs minor league team. Even
though his baseball career was nothing to be
proud of, it would be difficult enough to play
one sport at a professional level. Jordan had
the ability to switch sports and that is pretty
amazing. -
7- A Swing at Baseball
- For Jordan, playing baseball was not about being
the best, it was about knowing that he could do
it. It was obvious that he was nothing special
in baseball. In fact, Steve Wulf said that the
sooner Jordan realizes he is no good at baseball
the better. To Jordan, this was his fulfillment
of a life long dream and he did it because he did
not want to have any regrets about not trying
(Marc Stein).
8- Career away from sports
- Not only has Michael Jordan achieved great
athletic feats, but he has many accomplishments
outside of sports. He has a very successful
clothing and shoe line that has been around for a
very long time and he has been in, and improved
many commercials for many different products.
His most notable commercials are probably for
Hanes underwear, which he still does currently.
Darren Rovell says that Jordan is definitely the
greatest athlete endorser of all time. Michael
has also written books and acted in movies.
9- Career away from sports
- Books written by Jordan include I Cant Accept
Not Trying Michael Jordan on the Pursuit of
Excellence, For the Love of the Game My Story,
and Driven from Within (Michael Jordan). The
titles of his books reflect the kind of
passionate person that he is. Michael starred in
a movie called Space Jam in which he played
basketball with cartoons. He proved that he had
a comical side in this movie.
10- Career away from sports
- Jordan has given back to the community in many
ways. - He donated 1 million to the University of North
Carolina (his alma mater) for the Jordan
Institute for Families, which is part of the
School of Social Work. The institute was created
to help families when they need it (Hes Back). - He is involved in many charities such as the
James R. Jordan Boys Girls Club and Family Life
Center Named after his father, UNCF/College Fund,
and the Special Olympics. MJ is also part of
organizations that support children and families
(Hes Back)
11- Michael Jordan is one of the greatest athletes in
the history of sports. He has done amazing
things on the basketball court, has tried his
hand at baseball, and has many achievements
outside of sports including giving a lot back to
the community. In fact, Michael Jordan's
achievements on the court can be matched only by
his commitment to children and family causes
(Hes Back).
12- Nothing that Michael Jordan accomplished came
easy. When Jordan was cut from the high school
team he simply saw that as a reason to work that
much harder. He worked hour upon hour, made the
team the following year, and eventually led the
team to the state championship. All he has
accomplished has been a direct result of hard
word, determination, and perseverance. With
these three keys, Jordan became an extraordinary
athlete and a great role model for many people
around the world.
