47Questions the Board has heard
48What happens if Glidden dissolves?
- School District Boundary Appeals Board (SDBAB)
determines the new school boundaries and decides
where Gliddens children will go to school. - The SDBAB determines how the assets and
liabilities of the Glidden School District are
distributed to neighboring districts. - Glidden residents will inherit the debts and
liabilities of the district that they are
attached to. - Glidden residents will pay school taxes to the
district in which their children are assigned. -
- Glidden staff members are without a job.
49Why not spend our fund balance down and then
continue to operate in deficit?
- The state will not allow a district to operate
with a deficit fund balance. - The district will be forced to dissolve.
- If Glidden has no or little fund balance, we will
not be attractive to another district.
50Why not keep going until we run out of funds?
- The state will not allow the district to operate
with deficit fund balance. - Programs will need to be eliminated depriving our
children of a quality education.
51Why not use the third year of the referendum?
- Even with the third year of referendum money, our
district has a projected budget deficit of nearly
150,000. - The 150,000 would have to either come out of
fund balance or additional cuts would have to be
made. - Cutting classes deprives our children of a
quality education.
52Why not run another referendum so we don't have
to consolidate?
- With the current referendum, our mill rate is
already over 11 mills. - We must offer a quality education at an
affordable price. - The cost of educating our children would no
longer be affordable to our taxpayers.
