BACKGROUND
  • Strategy for Learning and Teaching (1994) --
    included recommendation to develop a mechanism
    to
  • recognise, reward and promote excellence in
    teaching
  • Scheme produced and approved by Academic Board in
    1997
  • Senior Teaching Fellows approved in 2002
  • Scheme used as model by other HEIs

NAPIERS TEACHING FELLOWSHIP SCHEME
  • The Fellowship exists to recognise and support
    good learning, teaching and assessment throughout
    the University.
  • Criterion-based (with no departmental/faculty
    quotas)
  • Evidence-based (portfolio and reflective
    commentary)
  • External and internal assessors
  • Appointment lasts for 5 years but renewable
  • Currently 60 Teaching Fellows and 11 Senior
    Teaching Fellows
