Sodium carbonate is used extensively,so the
manufacture of it is very important.

Solvay Process
A Belgian called Ernest Solvay discovered the
manufacture of sodium carbonate in 1862. He used
table salt,ammonia and carbon dioxide, here is
the reaction equations
H2ONaClNH3CO2?NaHCO3?NH4Cl 2NaHCO3?Na2CO3H2O
CO2?

That is so-called ammonia soda process.
Then many soda factories were set up in Europe
and America.

Hou's Soda Process
World War I provented China getting Soda from
Britain. And China was in lack of Soda at that
time. And Fan XuDong,set up.Yong Li Soda company
in Tanggu,TianJing.And he invited Hou De Bang as
general engineer of the company.

Hou Debang
Hou De Bang won the award of Great Contribution
in Chemical Engineering of China Engineering
Society.He was invited to be an honorary member
of the British Chemical Engineering Society,an
honorary member of the British Royal Academy and
American Chemical Engineering Society.
