Survey Details

• Administered by e-mail to Clerkship Groups 5, 6
  and 8 (including Windsor clerks)
• Responses were graded on a 7 point scale from
  Strongly Disagree (1) to Strongly Agree (7) and
  N/A scored as 0
• Students were given 10 days to return the
  completed surveys by email
• We received 18 completed surveys out of a
  possible 43 (41.9) 2 surveys were from Windsor
  clerks

General Comments

• My psychiatry block (rural Stratford) was a
  highlight of clerkship thus far
• Excellent one one teaching (rural Stratford)
• Psychiatry in Stratford was a great experience
• Excellent residents, appropriate level of
  responsibility, need more opportunity for
  outpatient psych.
• Department grand rounds were a good learning
  experience

General Comments Contd

• We only get experience in inpatient psychiatry
  and a little bit of child psychiatry. We should
  be exposed to more outpatient, consultant-liason,
  forensic, and geriatric psychiatry and
  psychotherapy.
• The paper work involved is just horrible!
• The final evaluation with the EFPO stuff is too
  rigid to be of any use give some flexibility in
  the evaluation, its not going to hurt the
  curriculum!

Child Psychiatry Comments

• Not organized enough, should have an hour or so
  of teaching each week instead of just sitting and
  listening to a child interview the whole time
• Really enjoyed learning about child psychiatry
  through the perspective of art therapy
• Boring after the first session
• Enjoyable, worth continuing

Child Psychiatry Comments Contd

• Needed a bit more education rather than just
  interviewing children. Maybe one hour of each
  session devoted to a topic specific to child
  psych and then interviewing the patients that
  relate to that topic?
• Shortage of consultants the groups were too
  large
• Should have 2 weeks of child, geriatric and
  forensic psychiatry, respectively instead

Windsor Comments

• There were too many cancellations of the lectures
  on Wednesday mornings and the lectures themselves
  were not all that valuable
• Well organized rotation in Windsortravel to
  London for teaching waste of time when lecturers
  do not show child psychiatry poorly organized
  confusion over which site to go to.
• It would be better if students could spend 2-3
  days of the psych rotation with a child
  psychiatrist without too many other students to
  get a better idea of patient care, what they do
  while in hospital, etc.

Summary

• An excellent learning experience overall with
  great consultants and residents
• Child psychiatry needs to be better organized and
  should offer students more opportunity to
  interview patients
