Title: Focus on the Future

1
Focus on the Future
  • Amanda Sherrys Post-College Life

2
Toddler Lead Teacher
  • 2563.60 is my gross monthly pay. I earn
    14.79/hr.
  • Once taxes are deducted, my take home pay is
    1,922.70.
  • This job does not pay as much as a teachers job,
because it requires only an Associates degree,
and is my temporary job until I have enough
experience to be hired as an elementary teacher.

3
Housing
  • My apartment is 750/month, it is in Boston,
close to my place of employment.
  • Heat, electric, water, cable and garbage are
included in the rent, this makes the apartment
    more affordable.
  • 30-local with long distance helps me to call
home, to Rochester, to my family and friends
without raising my cell phone bill.
  • Renters insurance is 19.47 which falls within
    my budget.

4
Transportation
  • I purchased a 2000 Kia Sephia at 3,450. I have a
4 year loan at 5 interest and my payments are
    79/month.
  • Since I have a newer car, maintenance and repair
    costs are about 30/month.
  • I dont plan on spending any more than 75/month
on gas because my apartment is close to work.
  • Car insurance is around 50/month based on Met
    Life.

5
College Loans
  • Four years, lots of homework and a teaching
degree later, I am paying 150/month to the bank.

6
Savings/Investments
  • Saving 5 of my net pay gives me 96.14 every
month in a savings account. I have it set up as a
direct deposit from my pay check into a savings
account that I do not plan on touching unless
    there is an emergency.

7
I Need it!!!!!
  • The 250 I have budgeted for food should be
plenty as I am a single person not cooking full
    meals every night.
  • I have planned 50 in total for Drs co-pay,
    dentist and Rxs per month.
  • Clothing should cost me no more than an average
of 25/month. Most of my clothing needs are
covered in gifts for Christmas and birthdays.

8
I would like
  • With a large family, I will surely spend the
25/month I have budgeted for gifts.
  • With all the instruments that I play, I dont
fuss over my nails, but I do get my hair done
every couple of months. This will cost me an
    average of 25/month.
  • Due to budget constraints, I cant afford a pet,
    subscriptions, or memberships.
  • Entertainment is important to me, so within a
month, I can spend up to 20.
  • The only donations I plan to make while living on
my own are to church, for offering. That will
    cost me 5/month.
  • Nothing is possible without the internet these
days, so in using AOL, I will spend 30
    maximum/month.
  • My cell phone bill is 40/month with 5,000
minutes and free nights and weekends.

9
Miscellaneous
There were some things that were not included in
my budget template that are needed in order to
live the lifestyle I want to live. This includes
laundry money. For a months worth of clothes
washed, I gave myself 30. And to keep up with my
own playing standards, I gave myself 50 for two
music lessons/month

Reflections
  • As an adult, I feel much more comforted that
I am not out on a limb spending money that I
dont have, and I actually have a secure base
plan and budget. However, I also feel nervous
that I may not be able to follow this the way I
    should.
  • As a 12th grader who has almost 5 years
before I have to go through actually carrying out
my budget, I feel relieved that I can be
frivolous for another short amount of time.
