Title: McKenzie Landscaping was established in the summer of 2006.
1McKenzie Landscaping
McKenzie Landscaping was established in the
summer of 2006. I created McKenzie Landscaping
because when I get older I would like to own a
business and I thought that this would be a good
way to experience how to own a business.

- Hedge Trimming
- Yard Cleanup

Well make your yard look nice, at a cheaper

Goals for the Upcoming Year
Every year you need to analyze what you can or
could have done the time you were running your
business and find things you need to improve on.
You also need to create goals to reach in order
to be successful and prosper as a business.
4What Is a Goal??
A goal is a statement of something a person wants
or needs to do. NEFE High School Student Guide
This year I have long-term goals and short-term
goals. Hopefully I will reach my short-term goals
this year, and my long-term goals in the future
years.
5McKenzie Landscapings Short-Term Goals
- Have at least 5 customers and make 200/wk
- (160 profit wk)
- Also, if I do have 5 customers maybe hire 1 or 2
people to help operate the business - Advertise MUCH sooner
- Before beginning of summer.
- I advertised way too late which led to having
only two customers. If I had advertised sooner I
could have potentially had more customers. - Increase amount of advertising
- Advertising was okay, but it could be better.
- The better advertising and the more people know
about your business and how well it is run will
help you get more customers, especially in the
future of your business. - Become better with negotiations on prices
- Price a little bit higher.
- With last year being my first year, I didnt want
to over price I just wanted to be used to running
my own business. Now that I have some experience
and know what I need to do, its time to start
negotiating better.
6McKenzie Landscapings Long-Term Goals
- Become a well-known local landscaping company
through strong advertising and excellent
performance. - Buy all professional equipment.
- Make large amounts of profit weekly.
- Have customers go to McKenzie Landscaping over
other landscaping companies. For low price and
quality service.
7 SALARY
- Depending on the amount of customers I had and
the number of services requested, determined how
much income I received. - In order to figure out my salary, I had to
calculate my expenses and deduct them from my
income. - The business opened later in the summer than
anticipated but we had two regular customers and
I was receiving about 80 weekly.
8Profit
Profit- is how much money you have made after
subtracting it from the expenses it cost you to
manage your business.
Ex. You want to sell hats at a stand. You want to
sell them for 10.00 each. It cost you 2.00 to
make them. Your profit would be 8.00 for every
hat you sell.
9First Year for All Profit
This Summer was the first time I have ever
attempted to run my own business. Luckily, my dad
helped me out. I did not have to buy my own
equipment to operate my business, because I got
to use the mower and weed/hedge trimmer from my
house. Though I did not have to buy equipment, I
did have to buy gas.
10How I Handled My Expenses
Every two weeks I would put aside 20 of what I
made that week. Which meant I put aside 16 every
two weeks to pay for gas, and or incase something
happened to my resources.
It was a good thing that I did put money aside,
because my mower ended up breaking during a job,
and I had the money that I put aside to cover it.
Then I had to pay for gas which meant I had to
put more than 20 aside that month.
11What I Did With My First Week Of Pay
- The first week I got my weeks pay, I
- First put the 20 of my pay (16) and put it
aside for business expenses - I also took 20 and put it aside and deposited it
into my savings account. Which left me with 44
at the end of the week. - That week I spent money on almost everything I
saw until I didnt have any money left!!!! - After that week I realized I need to be more
responsible with my money and not buy everything
I see.

13Things to Consider With Your Money
- Be responsible with your money
- You should set some guidelines with how much of
your income you spend and how much you save. - DONT spend all the money you have right when you
get it, save it for when you need it.
- Start a savings account
- Start a savings account at your bank to save your
money in a safe place. - You will also make interest giving you more money
in the long run.
- Save for the future
- Put money aside in your savings account, so in
the future you can save up for that car you
always wanted, and or other things you may
want/need. - Putting money in a savings account now, will
really help you out in the long run when you are
in need of money.
14Potential Thought With Savings Money
With my savings money, I may in the future buy a
truck, and invest in a plow. This way, I can make
money plowing during the winter and make even
more money running my business year round.
15Prepared For The Upcoming Year
- I learned in the business world that..
- In order to be successful you must never peak.
You need to find ways to become more and more
successful as time goes on to be at the top. - Whether its increasing advertising, managing
money better, or making goals tougher you MUST
NEVER be satisfied if you want to become the
best. - You also must become strong financially in order
to succeed learn how to handle your money
properly. It is one of the most important things
to know coming out of high school.
