Title: 32nd Sunday

1
32nd Sunday
  • Ordinary Time (B)

2
  • You have contributed from your surplus wealth
    but she, from her poverty.

3
1st Reading
  • This is the story of the prophet Elijah, who
after being driven away by Ahabs armies, found
himself in the desert with nothing to eat or
drink. Upon reaching Zarepath, he was then
rescued from famine through the generosity of the
widow. Then Elijah rewarded her accordingly.

4
2nd Reading
  • As contrast to the Old Testament sacrifices
offered by the Temple High Priests, Jesus
sacrifice was entirely different in nature.
Jesus single sacrifice suffices in redeeming all
mankind. Moreover, His sacrifice was brought
    directly to the Heavenly Father.

5
Gospel
  • Jesus castigates the scribes who put on a
hypocritical show of virtues and piety. Then in
contrast, He praises the simple widow for her
great generosity. In her dire need and poverty,
she still offered everything she had to the
    Temple.

6
  • Why was widow of Zarepath rewarded with a
unending supply of flour and oil? Or the widow in
Gospel so much praised by Jesus?
  • Because they were really generous even they were
very poor and during the time of famine.

7
  • The 2 widows practically gave an insignificant
    amount. BUT!!!!!
  • They gave everything they have.
  • Their generosity was from the heart.
  • They didnt expect anything in return.
  • Their generosity was not for show, it was
    authentic.

8
Be generous!
9
  • Keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who
himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to
    receive.'
  • Acts 20 35
