• There were many Greek settlements in southern
  Italy and Sicily between 750 550 B.C.E.

• The ruling family of the Etruscans were the
  Tarquins
• The Tarquins were cruel leaders
• In 509 B.C.E. the Romans rebelled against the
  Etruscans and overthrew the Tarquins
• The Roman Republic began
