How To Get Into Medical School

Step 1 UCAS Form

• Chose a Medical School that is right for you -
  think of location, course structure and entry
  grades.
• Get UCAS Form in early, before deadline - this
  will give you a better chance.
• Personal statement - 3 paragraphs 1 Why
  Medicine?, 2 Why do you deserve a place?, and 3
  Something personal.

Step 2 The Waiting Game

• Dont worry.
• If others are recieving interviews, and you are
  not, do not panic.
• It is useful to contact the Medical School
  Admissions Office, in order to keep your
  application on top of the pile.

Step 4 Recieving an Interview

• Relax.
• Prepare - It is useful to undergo practice
  interview sessions up to the actual main event.
• If possible try to vary the number of people
  taking the interview (the actual one will have at
  least 2 panelists), and also try to be
  interviewed by people you do not know for e.g a
  teacher of a different subject.
• Read up on any relevent news, i.e new dicoveries
  in the Medical world and be prepared to answer
  the worst question of all why do you want to be
  a Docter?.

Step 5 Interview Day 1

• Get plenty of sleep the night before.
• Arrive at the University in plenty of time of the
  interview.
• If there is an organised tour of the campus go on
  this as it is an ideal period to ask questions of
  the students already on the course.

Step 6 Interview Day 2

• In the interview - DONT PANIC.
• Introduce yourself with a firm handshake and
  appear confident throughout.
• Answer questions as succinctly and as accurately
  as you can.
• Do not waffle.
• Do not remain silent, if you are unsure of a
  question tell the interviewer

Step 7 Awaiting an Offer

• If all went well, you should be recieving an
  offer from that University.
• If not then do not panic, try again at other
  interviews.
• However if you did not get an offer then make
  sure you do as well as possible in your exams,
  and then try through clearing on results day.

A Parting Shot

• What ever happens to you, do not give up.
• Medicine is an excellent degree course and well
  worth the wait - it can be done as a post
  graduate degree for thost less fortunate the
  first time round
• Remember - If at first you dont suceed KEEP
  TRYING
