Something To Think About!
  • Effective Christian witness requires the power of
the Holy Spirit and confidence in the person
giving the witness. Effectiveness diminishes to
the degree that either is lost. Paul illustrates
his own concern for an impeccable testimony in 1
Corinthians 927. The possibility of becoming a
castaway and being rendered ineffective and
useless is very real. When that happens you
become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal (1
    Corinthians 13).

My Neighbors Conscience
  • 1 Corinthians 1016-33

4
KEY VERSE
1 Corinthians 1024 Let no man seek his own,
but every man anothers wealth.
5
  • Lesson Objectives
  • To recognize the responsibility the Christian has
for the way his actions affect others
  • To seek the glory of God in all that one does
  • To show a profound interest in the spiritual
    well-being of others

6
  • A QUESTION OF IDENTIFICATION
  • 1 Corinthians 1016-22
  • Fellowship With Christ (16-18)
  • 2 Timothy 222 1 Corinthians 1120-22
  • Identification With Devils (19-20)
  • 1 Cor. 84-6 Deut. 3217
  • The Lords Jealousy (21-22)
  • 1 Cor. 614-16 Deuteronomy 3221a Exodus 205
  • 1 Kings 1422 Psalm 7858

  • Pauls explanation of the purpose and communion
found in the Lords Supper highlights how
seriously a Christian should approach and partake
of the Lords table. On the other hand, his words
also remind us how seriously we should avoid
idolatry. Thus, a self-evaluation is prudent. How
soberly do you participate in the Lords Supper?
How diligently do you resist idolatry, whatever
    your idols may be?

  • Christian conduct must be governed by that which
pleases God and that which is most profitable for
others. We must guard against the indifference
that declares, I do not care what others think.
Whether a thing is permissible is not nearly as
important as whether it will build up others or
undercut their faith. Christian love dictates
that I never place a stumblingblock in the way of
    others.

  • QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
  • 1. What does Paul mean by commanding all
Christians to seek every man anothers wealth?
  • 2. Explain what Paul means when he says to do
all to the glory of God.
  • 3. Can you think of situations today where guilt
    by identification should restrict Christian
    liberty? Give practical examples.
  • 4. According to this lesson, what is so bad about
false religions? Why do so many Christians seem
    so hesitant to acknowledge this?
  • 5. Explain the principle of expediency as set
forth in verses 23 and 24.
  • 6. What is to be the chief factor regulating a
believers behavior in areas of Christian
    liberty?
