Title: The Importance of
1The Importance of Recycling, Reusing and
Reducing
By Martha Blanchet Jess Musgrove 10G
2Recycling
Recycling conserves (preserves) resources,
protects the environment and reduces the need for
landfill sites. It saves our energy resources and
reduces the massive amounts of waste that we
produce.
- Recycle
- Bottles
- Cans
- Clothes
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Magazines Newspapers
- Plastic
- Computers
- Computer Ink cartridges
- Plastic Bags
Did you know??? Bread bags, shopping bags,
shampoo bottles bottles are melted down made
into products like flower pots, telephone cords
black bin bags. Soft-drink milk bottles are
chipped, washed, melted made items like car
bumpers.
3Reusing
Reusing materials in their original form, or
passing them on to someone who can make use
out of them, rather than throwing them away will
save resources and will save YOU money!
. Before you throw something away, think about if
any part of it could be reused in any way at
all. . Donate, swap or sell items such as old
toys, clothing, furniture, sports gear, tapes and
CDs. . Glass jars, tins and some plastic
containers make easy storage containers for
around the garage or garden shed. . Ask a your
local nursery group or primary school if they
could use items you no longer need, that are
also difficult to recycle, such as plastic
bottle tops, yoghurt pots, boxes and cotton
reels.
4Reducing
- Reducing the waste that we produce means that
we will reduce the need for landfill sites and
help keep a healthier environment. It will help
to make a our communities a cleaner and better
place to live in and will prevent us from adding
to the waste stream in general.
- Buy and use less buy only what you need and use
all of what you buy. - Make sure that when you are through with
something you pass it along to other people who
can continue to put it to good use. - This is very important with items like paint,
chemicals, cleaners, strippers, pesticides,
herbicides, etc because disposal is difficult or
they could be hazardous to our environment. - Select products that are not wasteful in their
packaging - Purchase products that come in packaging that
can be easily recycled - Put plain and recyclable packages high on your
list to reduce packaging waste. - Flashy packaging is more harmful to the
environment and can pose recycling difficulties.
