Team History
  • The team was started in 2003. At our first ever
    competition we were the only rookie team to make
    it to the semi-finals.
  • In 2004 the team participated in two competitions
    and won our first ever off-season event.
  • Competing against 85 teams in our division, 1089
    finished undefeated and ranked first seed at the
    2005 Championship Event in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • In 2006 we participated in five events, winning
    our second off-season competition. We also
    received the NJ Regional Website, and JJ
    Sportsmanship awards.
  • 1089 competed in both the 2007 NJ and UTC
    Connecticut Regional's, and won 5 out of our 7
    qualifying matches at the Championship Event.

  • FIRST students are offered almost 8 million in
    scholarship opportunities.
  • Creates a team-building environment where
    students can learn from teachers, mentors,
    engineers, and professionals.
  • Inspires students to pursue higher education in
    science, engineering, and technology.

2006/2007 in Review
  • Taught team workshops about programming,
    mechanics, Autodesk Inventor, etc.
  • Planned a FIRST LEGO League qualifying event
  • Recruited new students at 8th grade orientation
  • Attended the Memorial Day Parade Hightstown Day
  • Donated profits from the EW Twp. Independence Day
    Celebration to the CJ SIDS Foundation.
  • Competed in 3 official competitions

  • UTC Connecticut Regional
  • Championship Event
  • Invited students to attend the NJ Regional and
    learn more about robotics, FIRST, and Team 1089.

2007/2008 Plans
  • Increase teamwork hold more student leadership
    workshops
  • Recruit new members involve students more, team
    building activities, etc.
  • Work with other teams create a FIRST Team
    Mentor Union to support NJ FIRST
  • More public awareness more activity in the
    community, more fundraisers
