Society Outreach Goal

• To offer a quality and financially viable service
  to Societies/Councils in the identification and
  production of valuable and timely educational
  products and services

• Objective Society engagement in the
  XPlore-Based Educational Products Initiative
• Sub-Objectives
• Work with the Societies to select IP in emerging
  technologies
• Work with Societies to select the most promising
  expert presenter candidates
• Maintain active cooperation with Societies to
  facilitate the peer review process

• SOOC has played a major role in winning support
  of target Societies
• EMS, CS, LEOS, EDS
• SOOC has also been actively involved in
  identifying candidate presenters and topics
• EMS - Gus Gaynor, Managing Innovations

• CS - Dick Price, Proactive vs. Reactive
  Security
• EDS - Jack Lee, Nitride Gate Dielectrics

  model development
• Contribute to clarification of Society role and
  responsibilities in business model
• Identifying promising topics and presenters
  (Subject Matter Experts)
• Conducting peer reviews of technical material
• Participate in negotiating Society financial
  stake and rewards for participating in business

Inter-Society Education Community

• Objective Develop Inter-Society Education
  Community.
• Sub-Objectives
• Establish an effective community among the
  Society Education VPs and other Society-based
  education activists
• Find ways in which EA can help them work together
  to offer cross-Society educational opportunities

• Planned Approach
• Assemble and activate Society VPs of Education
• Serve as a clearinghouse for education best
  practices among all of the Societies
• Work with Distinguished Lecturers program
  coordinators to expand/share benefits among
  Societies
• Encourage use and sponsorship of the Virtual
  Communities
• Encourage use and sponsorship of the Virtual
  Museum

• 2003 SOOC efforts focused on Initiative Support
• SOOC has played a very constructive role in
  Initiative to date
• More work to do during coming months
• Efforts to develop Inter-Society Education
  Community will be a major focus of 2004 SOOC
  activities
