  • Sweden is one of the three fingers of
    Scandinavia.
  • Sweden has about nine million people and most of
    them live in the south.
  • Its just larger than the state of California, it
    covers 173,732 sq. miles.
  • Its very warm in the summer, where they visit
    tiny islands, large forests, and lakes. In the

  • Swedes are 87 Lutheran.
  • 13 are other religions.
  • Most Swedes are Christian, but rarely attend
    church services.

  • More than 1,000 years ago, the Vikings ruled the

    ships to travel and trade goods with people in
    faraway lands.

  • In 1397, the Kingdom of Sweden joined a union
    under the control of Denmark.
  • In 1520,the Danish King ordered death of 82
    Swedish in Stockholm. This was called the
    Stockholm Bloodbath.
  • This angered a Swede named Gustav Vasta and he
    led a revolt against the Danes.
  • On June 6,1523 he was chosen to become king of
    Sweden.

  • Swedes love to play sports. Popular sports
    include skiing and other winter sports,
    horseback riding, and Bandy. (hockey)

    jogging in the summer and cross country skiing in
    the winter.
