The Challenges

• Irish imports and exports have grown five fold
  since 1990 (34bn Euro to 169bn Euro)
• Dublin Port is likely run out of capacity by 2008
• The consequences for our economy are profound
• Exporters and importers will face increasing
  delays and costs in getting goods to market

Dublin Port Proposes

• Creating additional trade berthing facilities by
  reclaiming 52 acres from the sea
• 30 years on, the proposal has not progressed due
  to planning difficulties, strong local and
  political opposition
• The Progressive Democrats believe this proposal
  is unworkable

• The gradual migration of Dublin Ports industrial
  activities to Bremore Port
• The redevelopment of Dublin Port as a new city in
  the heart of Dublin with.
• Family housing
• Offices and retail outlets
• Waterfront promenades, parks and public spaces
• A world class centre for cruise liner traffic
• While turning development in Dublin to face the
  sea

Dublin City Council Objective

• Objective CUF 6
• To prepare a plan for that part of Dublin bay
  from and
• including North Bull Island and the South Wall
  and up
• to and including Sandymount, Merrion Strand and
• Booterstown and also concentrated on the Port
  Area.
• The plan will identify and determine the role of
• that part of the bay as an economic, amenity,
• recreational, environmental and ecological
  resource.
• The plan shall be prepared following consultation
• with all relevant stakeholders including
  recreational
• users, local community interests and the public.
• The plan shall establish guidelines for the
  future
• sustainable development and use of part of
  Dublin
• bay, its environs and foreshore.
