LASIG 2
  • Rapides Parish

2
GRETCHEN GOODMAN Response to Intervention
  • Gretchen Goodman came to our district
  • on April 7, 2008 and delivered a presentation on
    response to intervention.
  • She gave an excellent presentation and helped
those in attendance gain a better understanding
    of the process.

3
Rita Pierson The Framework for Understanding
Poverty
  • Dr. Rita Pierson came to Rapides
  • Parish on May 14, 2008.
  • She captivated the audience and
  • raised awareness about how living in poverty can
    profoundly affect a persons life.

4
Grading Task Force
  • A task force was assembled to address grading for
    students with disabilities.
  • As a result of the meetings, a statement was
added to our Pupil Progression Policy which
addresses grading for students with IEPs.
  • An intervention worksheet was also developed to
help students who may have failing grades at the
    midpoint of the grading period.

5
PBS
  • LASIG supported PBS by paying stipends to teams
of teachers from each school that attended the
    universal training.
  • LASIG also supported PBS by paying an honorarium
to PBS facilitators assigned to each school.
(This really helped give PBS momentum in our
    district!!)

6
After-school workshops
  • LASIG provided funding for district-level
personnel to present after-school workshops on a
variety of topics including RTI, behavior
    management, and accommodations and modifications.

7
LASIG 2 DRAGNET
  • DRAGNET is our special education induction
program that helps support our new uncertified
    special ed teachers.
  • Four workshops were held on Saturdays throughout
    the year.
  • LASIG helped provide participating teachers with
    high quality professional development materials
    and stipends.

  • SUMMER ACTIVITIES 2008

9
Co-teaching Workshop
  • Co-teaching workshop
  • We are so excited to have our very own LASIG
Liaison, Toni Bennett, to deliver a presentation
    on co-teaching.
  • We are requiring that regular ed and special ed
teachers attend the workshop together so that
they can leave with a plan of action.

10
Discipline Data
  • Discipline Disaggregation
  • LaSIG has helped to support our efforts to
    disaggregate our district discipline data.
  • So far, our data indicates that we have made
notable improvements in both suspensions and
    expulsions.

11
DATA DISAGGREGATION
  • LASIG has supported the efforts of two of our
    special education facilitators to disaggregate
data for special education students in our
district and create binders for each . During the
month of June, we will be holding meetings with
teams from each school to go over the special ed
    assessment results.

12
ED Institute
  • We are in the process of redesigning the way in
which we provide services to students with
emotional and behavioral disturbances. We will be
holding a two-day ED Institute this summer to
work with teachers to find ways to increase
inclusive practices and improve academic outcomes
    for these students.

13
Active Parenting
  • A group of thirteen people were trained in the
    research-based parenting program called Active
    Parenting.
  • Four of those continued on to complete an
    intensive training of trainer certification.
  • We plan to use this program to sponsor parenting
groups in targeted schools. The meetings will be
held at neighborhood sites that are convenient
    and comfortable for the parents.

14
Other Summer Workshops
  • LASIG has enabled our district to take advantage
of summer hours to offer workshops on the
    following topics
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • DIBELS Intervention Strategies
  • Paraprofessional Institute
  • Literacy Workgroups for Students with Significant
    Disabilities
  • Co-teaching
  • ED Institute

15
