Extended Project
Finally, Delia was asked to conduct a series of
face-to-face and telephone interviews with
customers who attended the launch in order to
find out what they thought of the salon and its
products and services. She fed this information
back to the salon manager and staff concisely
which was much appreciated as everyone was
absolutely shattered!
Delia used her project to investigate the
feasibility of opening her own hair and beauty
salon. She identified potential locations in the
city and then compared them, looking at rental
costs, customer demographics and any
competition. Once she had chosen the most
suitable location she designed the interior of
the salon. She thoroughly enjoyed this,
especially visiting a range of existing salons to
get some inside help. To complement her research
Delia discussed with the owners their views on
heating and lighting needs as well as the most
suitable seating and treatment surfaces. She
presented, via a series of wall displays, three
different themed ideas with full costings to a
group of her friends and let them make the choice
promising them all a free cut and style in
return for their help!
Delia spent a placement with one of the salons
she visited whilst researching her project. They
were in the process of opening an additional
salon and Delia helped them get it ready for
business. She was asked to put forward ideas for
the launch party and distribute promotional
literature outside the city football ground on
match day. She was also asked to arrange for the
press to attend the launch and prepare editorial
material for inclusion with the pictures.
