- As stated in our bylaws are to
- Oppose inhumane treatment of animals
- Improve the quality of life of animals in Owen
Countys care - Advance spay and neuter programs as a long-term
solution to the problem of unwanted pets - Educate residents on responsible and humane
treatment of animals - Facilitate, promote and arrange for the adoption
of impounded animals to responsible owners with
suitable homes - Furthermore, underlying these purposes is the
ultimate goal of minimizing and eventually
eliminating euthanasia of Owen County animals
just because they are homeless.
5Current Objectives
- Reducing the euthanasia rate by and placing dogs
in the countys custody into foster homes,
rescues or adoptive homes - Improving the quality of life of dogs while in
the county's custody - Preparing to operate the Owen County dog shelter
when it opens
6Reducing the Euthanasia Rate
- Bi-monthly adoption fair at Petsmart in Florence
- Listing dogs on www.petfinder.com and other
websites - Publicizing dogs via email rings among other
rescue organizations through out the country - Periodic adoption events
- Transports of accepted dogs to rescues in other
areas that do not have an overpopulation issue
7Finances
- We operate solely on donations
- Approximately 90 of the donations received in
2007 were from outside the county - Donations are tax deductible
8OCFA SUCCESS
We have reduced the countys euthanasia rate from
virtually 100 to less than 1 and saved
