What does a sea otter look like?

• Sea otters are usually brown.
• They can be white and brown.
• They are four to six feet long when full grown.

How much does a sea otter eat a day, and how?

• An average sea otter eats 20 to 25lbs of food
  each day.
• It eats crabs, abalone, snails and sea urchins.
• Sea otters float on their backs and crack open
  crabs.
• Sea otters eat over 100 different prey species.

What animals eat a sea otter?

• You might think all sharks eat sea otters, but
  only the great white shark does.
• Sometimes even eagles eat baby sea otters. They
  dive down from the sky and peck them until they
  cant swim, then the eagle eats it.
• When sea otters are on land, some bears and
  coyotes eat them.

What is special about sea otters?

• it can dart through shallow waters.
• Another thing special is it can float on its
  back. Not only can it float on its back, but it
  can also swim on its back!
• it is really good at diving into kelp.

How does a sea otter protect itself?

• One of the cool ways a sea otter protects itself
  is that it wraps itself in kelp and hides in it.
• Another way is it only wraps its arms in kelp.
• After it wraps its body in kelp it dives until
  its predators are gone.
• The other way is after it wraps its arms in
  kelp, it puts them out of the kelp and waves them.

Fun Facts

• 3,500-5,500 sea otters have died because of oil
  spills.
• Sea otters dont have gills so they come up for
  air every once in a while.
• Sea otters can be very vicious at times, not
  cuddly.
• Sea otters can close their ears and nose so
  water doesnt go inside.
