2National LMS Pilot Overview
- Main Objectives
- To demonstrate the NLMS successfully enables the
delivery of National and Local elearning content
to employees - Pilot the system, implementation approach
supporting documentation - Ensure integration with OLM module
- Engaged with 3 of the main National Content
providers - NHS Connecting for Health (CfH)
- e-Learning for Healthcare (eLfH)
- NHS Core Learning Unit (CLU)
- Each SHA represented by at least one of 19 pilot
sites - Pre requisite work started in May and key testing
stage was planned to run from June through to
August - Pilot sites adopted buddies to aid learning and
knowledge sharing - Collation of pilot findings currently underway
with a closure report due early October
3Findings (1)
- Trusts returned pilot evaluation report, grading
surveys and user evaluation sheets. - Constructive feedback, fewer tests completed than
planned - Local IT issues impacted almost all sites, with
some Trusts unable to rectify Internal IT issues
until very late on in the testing period - National content delayed by up to two months
- Local content not able to be ready in time
- Testing months conflicted with major holiday
period. Some Trusts experienced problems in user
engagement. - A lot of feedback received relating to National
Content - Main system testing has identified system issues
around reporting and the replication process
(fixes due to be retested at the end of
September)
4elearning Architecture Access

5Findings (2)
- 5 Highest Rated Pilot Project Areas
- Account Manager Support
- Project Setup
- Project Documentation
- Internal resource requirements
- System Availability
- 5 Lowest Rated Pilot Project Areas
- Tracking Data (replication process / Status not
updating) - Reporting (reports not working or gathering
incomplete data) - Time allowed for pilots (duration and chosen
period) - Testing Environment (non local data)
- Delays in issues resolution
6Findings (3)
Majority of sites positive and expect to roll out
NLMS (subject to the two issues (replication
reporting) being resolved)
7Lessons Learnt
- Clarity of roles required between NHS Central
Team and National content Providers - Full and early engagement of local IT is
essential - Local Project Management team required rather
than one individual - Additional Information around National content
required - Clear and agreed internal processes for new user
set up and SR logging - Local owners of existing classroom training need
to be involved in the selection of appropriate
National Content - Trusts should review where and how local content
is hosted
8Next Steps
- Install fixes for the replication and reporting
issues and retest - System to be made available to wider NHS audience
once resolutions for replication and reporting
issues are in place (expected to happen at end of
October) - Review list of enhancements
- Continue the update of supporting documentation
- Continued addition of further National content in
line with schedule - Engage with other National Providers
- Additional support to be made available to
selection of pilot sites to further roll out NLMS
- Continue to encourage and develop the use of the
buddy system - Regional SHA hosted NLMS Workshops planned
