  but I will hold the watchman accountable for his

What is this world watch all about?

• I decided each week to look at key events that
  had happened in that week and look at them with
  the Bible in hand.
• I hope to build up a picture of Gods hand working
  in the affairs of this world bringing about that
  day when all nations will be gathered to
  Jerusalem to battle which will be brought to end
  when the Lord Jesus Christ physically returns
  from heaven to set up Gods kingdom.
• The key areas which will crop up time and again
  will be
• Israel Middle East the growing conflict
• Europe the developing union / political and
  religious
• Russia continued turning back to anti west ways
• The development of King of South US UK
• Declining moral standards and increasing violence.

• Weekly Developments
• These are just a few of the events that have
  caught my eye in the previous week. It is in no
  way meant to be exhaustive just a look at those
  events I saw as significant from a Bible
  viewpoint.
• Headlines
• These are always headlines printed in the
  newspaper the date is always given and which
  paper. Normally the Daily Telegraph. (DT)
• Event
• This is usually the newspapers take on the events
  that have happened. It will always be a direct
  quote from the newspaper.
• Comment
• This is my take on why it is interesting from a
  Bible point of view. The idea of this weekly
  world watch is to give a quick Biblical
  perspective without going into detail. If more
  detail is needed please email me.
• Bible Quote
• This is normally one verse which backs up why the
  event that has occurred is interesting from a
  Biblical perspective. Please read in its context.

Fear of rift EU and US

• Headline
• Straw fuels fear of rift between EU and US
• Headline Sunday Telegraph 30 Nov
• Event
• Jack Straw, the Foreign Secretary, fuelled fears
  of a transatlantic rift over the European Unions
  defence policy yesterday when he refused to
  reveal how Washington has reacted to news of a
  controversial deal struck by Britain, France and
  Germany.
• Comment
• The development of an EU army is very
  significant. It is opening up huge divisions
  between the US and the EU and will enable the EU
  to act as a unified army without the US. This
  will surely be the case when the EU (excluding
  UK) along with Russia invades Israel.

Coalition Casualties

• Headline
• Iraq deaths stir up trouble at home for coalition
• Headline The Times 1 Dec
• Event
• The weekend wave of killings in Iraq caused huge
  political problems for the leaders of Japan,
  South Korea and Spain who lost 11 nationals
  between them. The targeting of the 4 attacks
  within 36 hours raised fears that the guerrillas
  have sources of information within the coalition.
  At the least, they marked a chilling departure.
  The latest strikes bore the hallmarks of a
  remorseless hit-list aimed at breaking the
  coalition.
• Comment
• We might expect the isolating of the UK and US as
  the lion powers. The weakening of the resolves of
  the other members of the coalition. We tend to
  think it is just the UK and US but there are many
  other nations represented in Iraq. I do wonder
  whether Isaiah 13 has a latter day fulfilment
  with the nations from afar gathered to the
  ancient area of Babylon. It could precede the
  final day of the Lord.

  multitude in the mountains, like as of a great
  people a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of
  nations gathered together the LORD of hosts
  mustereth the host of the battle.

Anti-Semitism Alarm

• Headline
• Church leaders to condemn attacks on Jews
• Headline The Times 1 Dec
• Event
• Jewish, Anglican and Roman Catholic leaders are
  to issue a joint declaration expressing concern
  about the growing number of anti-Semitic attacks
  that have left Jews afraid to walk the streets.
  The Chief Rabbi, Jonathan Sacks said Europe in
  particular must know from its own history that
  these are warning signs and, if they are ignored,
  they will not go away.
• Comment
• Anti-Semitism takes hold once more in Europe
  was another headline this week. We really are
  beginning to see growing alarm especially in
  Europe of anti-Semitism. We know what happened
  before when it got out of control millions of
  Jews were killed. It will happen once more. For
  we know 2/3 rds living in Israel will be killed.

  land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be
  cut off and die but the third shall be left
  therein.

Middle East Peace Deal Snubbed

• Headline
• Middle East peace deal snubbed by both sides
• Headline DT 2 December

• Event
• A gathering of world statesmen gave their
  blessing to an unofficial Middle East peace
  agreement yesterday despite the ceremony being
  derided by both Israel and Palestinians. A
  spokesman for Ariel Sharon accused Israeli peace
  campaigners of dancing around a golden calf,
  the biblical symbol of a false god. Under the
  terms of the virtual peace agreement, Israel
  would agree to concede sovereignty over
  Jerusalems disputed Temple Mount complex.
• Comment
• It is amazing how the Temple Mount site in
  Jerusalem has become the central issue. But it
  is Gods site. His eyes and heart are there
  perpetually. (1 Kings 93) The site where one day
  a new temple will be built. And though the
  nations try to split up Jerusalem they will not
  be able to for all who try will be cut in pieces.
  No peace agreement will work. Eventually all
  nations will be drawn there to battle.

Stench of corruption

• Headline
• Stench of corruption lingers over New Europe
• Headline The Times 3 December
• Event
• The tangled relationship between Eastern Europes
  political leaders and organised crime has become
  a pressing issue for the EU as politicians across
  the region face accusations of corruption.
• Comment
• The article continued to list a number of
  countries where corruption is affecting the
  governments and political leaders. Leaders
  affected are Polish Prime minister, Lithuanian
  President, Czech Prime Minister, Slovakian senior
  politician and others. We are told the world will
  be like the days of Noah before Jesus returns.
  Those days were violent and corrupt.

• 11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and
  the earth was filled with violence.
• 12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold,
  it was corrupt for all flesh had corrupted his
  way upon the earth.

Putin on course for victory

• Putin on course for big victory
• Headline The Times 1 December
• Event
• President Putin is pulling every lever at his
  command to ensure a massive win for his party in
  parliamentary elections this week.
• In a campaign reminiscent of the Soviet era, the
  government-controlled media and thousands of
  official organisations are seizing every chance
  to denigrate opponents and to ensure blanket
  coverage for the party of power, United Russia
• Comment
• Though the community party appears dead in the
  water it is interesting that under President
  Putin he operates like an old style Soviet
  leader. As the article says above his campaign is
  reminiscent of the Soviet era. As an ex KGB
  officer this may not be surprising. It should not
  be to us either as God says he will turn them
  back which in my opinion is turning them back to
  their anti west, communistic, authoritarian ways.

Powell attacks EU defence

• Headline
• Powell goes on attack over EU defence
• Headline DT 5 December
• Event
• Colin Powell, the US secretary of state, revived
  the simmering defence row with Europe yesterday,
  warning that Washington would resist moves by
  Britain, France and Germany to create an
  autonomous military planning cell outside Nato.
  The US cannot accept independent EU structures
  that duplicate existing Nato capabilities, he
  said. American diplomats left no doubt that the
  soft spoken Mr Powell was registering a
  thundering disapproval of the proposals for an EU
  operational planning cell in Brussels. Washington
  is aghast at Britain's embrace of the EUs anti
  American bloc.
• Comment
• I know this develops the first headline I looked
  at this week but we can see from this article how
  strong the feelings are over this. Why? Because
  the US wants Nato to protect the EU not another
  another rival force which it has no influence
  over. We should see this as the developing King
  of North v King of South situation.
